The municipality of Kouloukona is located at the hart of Crete between the mountain ranges of Psiloritis and Talos and belongs to Milopotamos Province.

The municipality emanated from the amalgamation of the previous communities Agia, Agios Ioannis, Aimonas, Aloides, Apladiana, Axos, Veni, Garazo, Damavolou, Doksaro, Episkopi, Theodora, Kalivos, Kryoneri, Livadia and Chonos.

The municipal seat and town hall are situated in Garazo village. The municipality is home to about 8.300 people.
