Our municipality consists of forty mainly mountainous picturesque villages, within an area of particular natural beauties, rich fauna and flora and an uninterrupted authentic rural life.

The cultural riches of this area are inestimable. You will find monuments of prehistoric times and the classical epoch, medieval aqueducts, old oil presses, watermills, historic building complexes, and buildings which mainly originate from the period of the Venetian occupation, but also from the period of the Turkish occupation up until the beginning of the last century.

The majority of the inhabitants work as farmers and stockbreeders. The processing of their products, along with agro-tourism, are starting to develop, while smaller businesses such as traditional tavernas and cafes, workshops for the art of weaving and other folklore arts are attracting a greater numbers of visitors.
